The Morphology of Eyes - Prologue
Solo Global Game Jam Project
About
A story-driven psychological sci-fi game made in Bitsy.
You are a linguistics graduate student walking home at dusk through quiet academic streets. That’s when you see him, a masked alien who doesn’t speak.
By morning, the news is full of sightings. The city is unsettled. And somehow… he wants you.
Beneath the mask, you see how the visitor communicates through facial expressions alone. As you talk and observe, you begin to build a lexicon, a growing book of expressions and meanings.
Will you face your fears and finally understand what the creature wants from you?

Game Jam Theme: MASKS
The theme was explored both literally and metaphorically inside the game.
Firstly, as the player, you get the chance to interpret peoples facial expressions, trying to understand what they are feeling beneath the mask they put up to you and society.
Additionally, the alien wears a mask when confronted with strangers. However, eventually, they drop the mask when they are near you and unveil that their language is spoken through facial expressions.
Potential for Future Projects
Morphology of eyes serves as a prototype or a prologue to a story with much potential when trying to answer the questions:
-
How would a society revolved communicating around facial expressions grow to become? How would it shape their residents? How would emotion and language be inevitably attached?
-
How can a cultural teaching of creating "masks" when communicating with member of society get in the way of communicating clearly with the alien?
-
How can the alien and the human teach each other valuable learning from their community?
